Costs of Hospital Care for Strokes in India: A Scoping Review

The incidence of stroke in India is one the largest worldwide. With this scoping review, we assessed evidence on costs stroke, which essential to evaluate whether care interventions are cost-effective. We adopted a healthcare sector and broader societal perspective searched electronic databases for records including cost estimates (up 2020). Following deduplication screening 2,510 records, extracted data (converted into 2020 Indian rupees [INR]) quality eight eligible studies. These studies, published between 2011 2020, covered whole specific localities were: cost-of-illness studies (n = 3); economic evaluations 2); cross-sectional costing study 1); simulated policy/clinical review 1). Among estimates, mean total per patient period up six months post admission ranged from ₹19,428.86 government hospital Punjab ₹118,040.15 private tertiary centre Ludhiana. median out-of-pocket (OOP) payments cardiovascular disease-related expenditures ₹18,148.88 ₹68,464.39 across different income groups.
